Veterinary Technician

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and professional licensed or license-eligible veterinary technician for full time employment. The Candidate must be able to work during days, weekends and holidays, must value the quality of care we provide at Brewster Veterinary Hospital and communicate it to clients as well as aid the veterinarian in achieving greater efficiency in overall patient care. The Candidate must also be a team player and detail-oriented person who can make good decisions, respond quickly and calmly to emergency situations and always maintain high standards of patient care. Our Technicians apply their professional technical skills in anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory testing, patient nursing care and client education. We see a wide variety of species and the candidate must become proficient in each. We are willing to train the right candidate in exotic/avian/wildlife medicine and handling.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Safe Animal restraint 
Venipuncture and IV Catheter Placement and Maintenance
Perform radiographs on patients
Patient care including diagnostic procedures and treatments
Surgical Nursing and Anesthesia monitoring
Prepare prescriptions and communicate discharge orders to clients
Ability to uphold proper safety protocols
Familiar with laboratory procedures and practices, In-House and Out-side Laboratories
Familiar with veterinary equipment, instruments and medications
Direct Assitants and Kennel Staff

Education Qualifications Minimum:

Graduate of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)accredited training school or program. Must be licensed or license-eligible with the state of New York in good standing.
Ability to read and write legibly in English and to communicate clearly both in person and over the telephone.
Basic computer literacy, including typing, required. Experience with general office equipment and software such as Infinity, Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel desired.
