Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography

Ultrasound is characterized by sound waves with a frequency higher than the upper range of human hearing. The sound is sent into the body and reflected from soft tissue structures. The reflected sound waves are analyzed, and an image is generated on a monitor. Ultrasonography allows a noninvasive and nonionizing visualization of the inside of a patients body. It also aids in the process of fine needle aspirates or biopsies. Ultrasound exams are usually performed on an awake patient, however sedation or anesthesia may be required if a fine needle aspirate or biopsy is needed.

Procedures that we perform include: Soft Tissue Ultrasonography and Cardiac Ultrasonography (Echocardiography)

Indications for a Soft Tissue Ultrasound include: Abdominal distension, Abdominal pain, Anorexia, Vomiting, Diarrhea, PU/PD, Pregnancy, Weight loss, Collapse, Ascites, Liver Disease, Kidney Disease, Hypertension, Abnormal Urinalysis, Mass, Organomegaly, and Metastasis check.

Indications for an Echocardiogram include: Heart murmur, Gallop rhythm, Tachycardia, Muffled heart sounds, Arrythmias, Dyspnea, Cough, Cyanosis, Syncope, Weakness, and Hypertension.
